The Tannin Foundation For Dracozoology is dedicated to furthering the scientific community's understanding of dragons by implementing collaborative, community-driven investigations into their biology and physical diversity.
TFFD was founded by Dr. Katherine Tannin--one of the preeminent dracozoologists in North America-- in 2004. Since its inception, it has been at the forefront of world dracozoology research. Some of the Foundation's contributions include the classification of the first four dragon types discovered, both by species and classical element (2005), and the documenting of the first known instance of pyrospiration (2008). Around that time, TFFD also discovered that industry-standard flame-retardants do not satisfactorily suppress dragon fire.
Upon completing reconstruction of the lab in 2009, TFFD welcomed a new research director, Dr. Joseph Kline. Dr. Kline, inspired by the success of the Human Genome Project in crowdsourcing scientific discovery, began to implement such collaborative in The Tannin Foundation's research initiatives. Under his leadership, and with the help of nearly 200,000 participants, the Foundation has contributed several more major finds to the body of dracozoology in the past several years.
